Our Church

St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Sherman Center — exterior

Welcome to join us

St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church has been used mightily by God to deliver Christ Jesus and His gifts for over 170 years. Our mission statement summarizes the congregation’s ministry: We are gathered by the Holy Spirit to receive the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the means of the Spirit — Preaching, Baptism, Absolution, and the Lord’s Supper.

Our mission is to respond with activities that directly strengthen Christian faith, including liturgy, prayer, catechesis, witness, spiritual songs, charity, and love for one another.

Belief and Practice

With the universal Christian Church, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod teaches and responds to the love of the Triune God:

  • the Father, creator of all that exists;
  • Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan;
  • the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God’s Word and Sacraments.

The three persons of the Trinity are co-equal and co-eternal, one God. As a confessional Lutheran congregation, we hold the Holy Scriptures as the inerrant Word of God and the Book of Concord (1580) as a faithful exposition of that Word.
